On Friday, President Donald Trump claimed that projected President-elect Joe Biden’s Thanksgiving address received only 1,000 views, evidence, Trump suggested, that Biden’s support was too low to have actually won the election:

The tweet was based on a segment from One America News, in which the anchor stated: “Joe Biden stirs a new controversy after his Thanksgiving address fails to attract viewers. Reports Thursday found that Biden’s livestream address got only 1,000 views online.” The “report” in question was a viral tweet, which showed a screenshot from a Twitter livestream of the event:

In addition to streaming the address on Twitter, Biden’s speech aired on a number of other platforms. CSPAN aired the address on TV along with all the major networks, and a number of other outlets featured the stream on their YouTube channels. The Hill, USA Today, and NBC were just a few of the news outlets that streamed Biden’s speech on YouTube. As of writing, each had far more than 1,000 views, with NBC’s stream receiving over 450,000 views by Friday. The Biden campaign stream on YouTube had nearly 100,000 views by Friday.

      No. It wasn't the context of the tweet. If he had said "on twitter" then he'd have been right but still a little disingenuous. Instead he said "just one thousand views" period. That is a lie.

    I don't recall ever seeing any politician's Thanksgiving address. As it should be. #makepoliticsboringagain

    Part of the greatness of conservativism used to be saying that politicians should not be the center of our attention. That's one of the ways the GOP lost its way, especially under Trump.

    Well, a 1000 is laughable from OANN, but the numbers still do not seem high.

    Oh course, it's Thanksgiving and people are going to do Thanksgiving things. I would slap any of my relatives if I were over and they said, "Shhh, lets listen to Trump/Obama/Bush/Clinton address to the nation for Thanksgiving."

    FOOL! Get back to preparing the festivities, that will shoot up my blood sugar into a comatose state. Washington D.C. be damned!

    Is what I pretend I would say to them before being booted out of the house.

    I normally have better things to do on Thanksgiving than watch politicians. But now that Trump has drawn my attention to Biden's talk, I guess I will go give it a listen.

      I totally agree. One of the reasons I voted for Biden was because I believe he will quietly do his job and I won't have to pay so much attention.

      Not a great speech but also not bad speech. Very moving in at least two places - when he talked about the empty seat at his table, and when he spoke about loving our country and loving one another. A bit of progressive pablum in places, but not so much as to be completely off-putting. I had a small cynical chuckle at thinking that of course he was optimistic - he just won the presidency. A bit non-plussed by the curious pronunciation of "Psalm," but I will chalk that up to his speech impediment.

    I feel like the Maga crowd is like a group of children playing out in the street with a truck barreling toward them. They ignore the passers by shouting at them, they ignore the sound of the blaring truck horn and just keep telling each other how safe they are just before....well , this isn't going to end well.

    I prefer a president who's top metric isn't "views". That's a terrible measure because it's not clear evidence of support or effectiveness. Beyond that, I'd personally rather not spend much time actually paying attention to the president. Obama got it right: this president is exhausting. I have a business to run, a family to love, communities to support, and hobbies to enjoy. Watching a president's thanksgiving address is about #1,000 on my list.

      He thinks this is important because just before he ran for President, I heard they were going to cancel his reality TV show because if low veiwership. Its the only metric he knows.

      I agree with this statement in it's entirety. I also agree with what Obama said. However (partly through not fault of his own) Obama helped jumpstart this "president as rock star" movement.

        I don't know that it was entirely Obama who jumpstarted the movement, though he certainly played into it. We conservatives did plenty of swooning over Reagan, who was a consumate, though sincere, actor turned politician. And Clinton likewise had his fan-girls (literally). Though if I had to lay the blame anywhere, I would actually go all the way back maybe to Kennedy.

        Trump however did something different in that to him it was all to be judged by the metrics of reality TV. His predecessors at least cared somewhat about the actual job and its ramifications.

          But Reagan actually did a good job from what I can see in history. Clinton with his terrible flaws, also did good working with republicans and compromising to get policy past and keep the economy a float.
